I just haven’t had the energy for anything for a while. I forced my self to shoot a bit today, and this is the result. I tried to capture some of the bees flying around in our hedge. This was the best shot I got, which is only slightly out of focus. I suddenly realise how difficult those really good macro shots are.

The photo is somewhat flat due to the harsh light around noon, but that was not really the purpose today. Im just trying to get back into the habbit of shooting pictures.

The right shot is a rose I found in the garden. Most of the roses are blooming right now, so that is all nice and good. I think I will try again when the light becomes better than it is now.

I was about half and hour too late for the sunset, but I still managed to get this photo of a rape field. I took it using a ND4 grad filter for darkening down the sky to bring out the colour of both the sky and the flowers.

It was a lot of fun to try portrait photography in a studio setup and I can only recommend that to photographers.

The course was build up with a bit of theory first, and then practical shooting where we got to try the theory out for our self. There was two different studios with a bit of differing setup. One of them meant for closer shots than the other. I think it was a decent course all in all. But (you knew that would come), it was too little time to really get the idea. The group of people in the course didn’t know each other, so at least I didn’t fully relax and had to be aware of people around me all the time.

I learned some basic things about lighting which is good, but I think the most important thing I brought home is that it is very important to talk to the model all the time. Something I would need to work immensely on. Since they, like most others, aren’t mind readers.

On the right is one of the better shots from that evening.

I also had the opportunity for a few shot of the impressive building. The colours where really not that prominent on the photo and the contrast of the photo seems to make it good for a black and white shot. Probably coupled with inspiration of a photo magazine I read just before I started on this photo.

I used an ND4 filter to get most details into the sky, but even then the sky around the sun burned out. I think I shot is at a good time of day though.

I got picked the Toucan photo because the colours are lovely, even though there are a few others with good composition as well. You can see a few more shots from the zoo here.

I was walking Oskar in the forest today while it was this awesome weather; sunny with clouds, so there was a constant play of light and shadow moving across the landscape. I got a chance to play some more with my polarizer, and I think am starting to grasp when and what difference it makes in a photo, so that’s nice. One thing I noticed is that the sky needs to be really clear to make the clouds pop. If it is this sort of misty clouds the effect will quickly disappear.

I took several photos which I thought would be good, but most of them turned out mediocre. This is the photo I like the most. It shows a small hill top with white flowers on it. I have tried to frame the photo such that a tree frame it on both sides and the roots of more trees frame the top. This gives a framing and a sort of vignette feel to it.

Unfortunately it is not nearly as sharp and crisp as I would have liked, many of my photos turned out that way today. My best guess is that I wasn’t paying enough attention to my focus when I played with the polarizer. Or move the focus a bit when adjusting the polarizer. I will have to look into that later, so it wont happen again…

One nice thing is that the polarizer really saturates the colours and give a green which is much closer to how it felt like with the forest floor all covered in these fresh flower leaves.

I just bought a polarizer and a set of ND grad filters. If you are the kind of person who doesn’t know what it is, just regard it as new photo gadgets for me to play around with . If you know what it is, I bought cokin ones to so they fit for all me lenses.

The picture on your left is one of the first shots I took with the polarizer on, and it seems to work just fine. It is supposed to remove non-metallic reflections which means it will often remove the highlights and thereby saturate the colours. What it does exactly to the photos, and when to use it I still don’t know. So I have spent the last few days playing around with it.

Returning to the photo on the left, it seems to me that the colours are more saturated than I would have been able to get them without the filter, but this is one of the shots I didn’t shoot without the filter, so I don’t have a direct comparison.

Composition wise I aimed for the rule of thirds, so each of the flowers is on line separating the image in three equally sized parts. I have added a bit of contrast in post processing, but nothing too fancy.

I took lots of shots at that event, but here are a few of them taken of the ingredients we used.

The shot to the left is a claw from a Norway Lobster and the photo to the right just a whole lot of mixed berries we used for the desert. Both are taken with my 50mm at a fairly low DoF and with only natural light available.

We cooked a four course dinner with good supervision and guidance of the chefs at work, and I am quite surprised by the quality of the outcome.

The dinner was yummy.

I was touched very deeply by the story his photos told about the people he met. I can only recommend it, but it is a light and happy exhibition as a such. I took this photo which I think turned out well and showed what I wanted to show. (I know you will hate it mom, but it is a really good photo of you ).

I am quite surprised or happy that my 50mm lens could cope with the light situation in the gallery. We also went to see the photo journalist pictures of 2009, and some of them were really inspiring, others were kind of “blah”.

We went to my sister’s place to get some coffee and some very nice buns. As usual I couldn’t resist to photograph Neo who is such a lovely cat and so fun to take photos of. His stare is so intense and so does well on pictures.
