No new photos lately

Hi Everyone

I know I haven’t posted any new photos lately, I have been hugely hung up by work as well as other interests, so my energy levels havn’t been able to keep up with my desire to pursue the project.

I have thrown the towel in the ring and admitted that I wont be able to post one photo per day, but I will still pursue a picture at least once per week and possibly more often.

A dog’s view

A dog's view When I walked the dog I saw this scene which was such a nice play of shadows (not sure I quite captured it the way I saw it).  And I wanted to make it into a photo. I tried a few different things, but I didn’t quite get the foreground the way I wanted until I by accident included Oskar in the frame. If nothing else I like the concept of showing what the dog sees.

Hazel tree

Hazel Yesterday we had some wonderful weather, so I went into the garden to make a shot with a simplistic almost abstract goal. This was the result.

More dog and a tree

Looking up I haven’t been uploading photos the last few days, I have been busy doing nothing. But I went out and photographed some. I gave up on the red/green/blue assignment, it was simply too difficult to find anything interesting.  Well there is still blue in one of the photos and green in the other, but it doesn’t really count.

The photo on the left is taken in a forest with these really big trees, so I played a bit around with how to capture the size, and ended up with this shot.

Oskar Yesterday I went outside to shoot the dog for a while. The weather was wonderful and I had plenty of opportunity to shoot both in sun light and shadow and a mixture of it, so I got to play around a lot with light. It was a good experience.  I got several really good shots, but picked this one as I think he smiles and it shows his personality very well.  I cropped it in a 4×5 instead of the usual 2×3, mainly because I could make it a tighter crop around Oskar and make the stick he is chewing on a diagonal line to give the image a bit of tension.  It is shot with my 50mm lens which yesterday certainly didn’t let me down. It is stopped down a bit and gave me some really good details and sharp images. With a wonderful contrast.

Enjoy

Coloured boats

Coloured Boats Finding something which is red, green and blue on one photo turns out to be a major challenge. But I guess that is good, at least I had a fun time trying yesterday. I found a greenish boat and a blue/red boat and thought that would be the answer to tuesday’s photo.

With a bit of post processing of the sky, I think the photo turned out really well.

Things that start with C

Shy cat Yesterday I was away all day, and brought a camera with almost no battery… How clever is that. Anyway, one of the few shots I managed to get was of my sisters cat hiding from Oskar. This photo turned out decent though.

Today I went on my daily walk with Oskar and thought I would see if I can include some of the primary colours; red, green and blue in all of this weeks photos. Primary colours Today I made an attempt and it was fun to play around with, though the result is “blah”. I have included all three of red stones, green grass and a somewhat blue sky.

Water Splash

Water splash I was out walking the dog while it was fairly windy, so I got the chance to capture a few images of the stirred water. So much for the calm and hot spring.

Power plant once again

Skærbækværket I went out to take some photos and fell back to photographing Skærbækværket for two reasons. First of all, it had an interesting sky, and I could get the company flag in the photo. Not that I want to toot the horn of DONG Energy, but the flag colour gave me some nice contrast in the photo.

Not one of the better photos I think, but something to start on and get back in the habit of taking photographs every day.

Spring Flowers

Spring flowers I know I have had a rather long absence from my blog and my photo project. I was finishing up my PhD thesis, and that took up all my energy, but now I am done with it, and I will try to get this project running again.

Spring has come to Skærbæk, and lots of flowers have started blooming in rather wonderful colours, and with the Easter comming up with the yellow colour I thought I would start out with that.

I have gone for a different crop than I would think I would normally do. I would normally let the flower fill out a lot more of the photo, but I think that only filling the lower part of the photo with them and let the rest be a dark contrasty colour works nicely. That way I have also inverted the light/dark part that you would normally see in a landscape photo, such that the dark part is in the top.

Hopefully I will be going again now with lots and lots of photos during the Easter and onwards.

Flowers in the hospital

Isolated Flower I was in the hospital again today, and thought I would take the opportunity  to shoot their flowers. I have picked two which I think has a certain quality to them. The one on the left is very simple nice in that respect. Unfortunately the flower is in the shade, and that dims it down a bit. I like the simplicity of the image though. Hospital Flowers

The second image I chose today, was an attempt to isolate the two flowers from the rest. The flowers are in the sun light this time, which gives them a bit more glow than the one in the shade. The second thing is that they are really sharp especially the right one.

I did a few tests yesterday and realised my 50 mm lens is much sharper if I stop it down to 2.8, and the images kind of pop when I do that. And in this case there was plenty of light to do that.

The second thing I found out is that the lens has a bit of front focus, which I just realised now I handled completely wrong when I took the photo. To compensate I should focus slightly behind the subject instead of slightly in front. Which also explains the slight out of focus of the left photo.

The left one is todays photo, but the right one is so nice I had to show it to you as well.
