Another session went by where I tried to shoot bees. This one was the most successful shot with my 200mm tele zoom. One thing I noted during post processing; is remember to check your ISO settings when shooting…. Mine was set to 800. But that being said, I think this is a fairly successful shot.

Summer shots
Jul 3
I know it has been a while since I posted anything. I just haven’t had the energy for anything for a while. I forced my self to shoot a bit today, and this is the result. I tried to capture some of the bees flying around in our hedge. This was the best shot I got, which is only slightly out of focus. I suddenly realise how difficult those really good macro shots are.
The photo is somewhat flat due to the harsh light around noon, but that was not really the purpose today. Im just trying to get back into the habbit of shooting pictures.
The right shot is a rose I found in the garden. Most of the roses are blooming right now, so that is all nice and good. I think I will try again when the light becomes better than it is now.

Rape field at sunset
May 18
I haven’t picked up my camera for almost a week, so I felt it was about time again to put a bit of colour on the page. I haven’t taken all that many photos in the spring, so I think you can handle a few more.
I was about half and hour too late for the sunset, but I still managed to get this photo of a rape field. I took it using a ND4 grad filter for darkening down the sky to bring out the colour of both the sky and the flowers.

New Polarizer
Apr 25
I just bought a polarizer and a set of ND grad filters. If you are the kind of person who doesn’t know what it is, just regard it as new photo gadgets for me to play around with
. If you know what it is, I bought cokin ones to so they fit for all me lenses.
The picture on your left is one of the first shots I took with the polarizer on, and it seems to work just fine. It is supposed to remove non-metallic reflections which means it will often remove the highlights and thereby saturate the colours. What it does exactly to the photos, and when to use it I still don’t know. So I have spent the last few days playing around with it.
Returning to the photo on the left, it seems to me that the colours are more saturated than I would have been able to get them without the filter, but this is one of the shots I didn’t shoot without the filter, so I don’t have a direct comparison.
Composition wise I aimed for the rule of thirds, so each of the flowers is on line separating the image in three equally sized parts. I have added a bit of contrast in post processing, but nothing too fancy.

A dog’s view
Apr 11
When I walked the dog I saw this scene which was such a nice play of shadows (not sure I quite captured it the way I saw it). And I wanted to make it into a photo. I tried a few different things, but I didn’t quite get the foreground the way I wanted until I by accident included Oskar in the frame. If nothing else I like the concept of showing what the dog sees.

More dog and a tree
Apr 9
I haven’t been uploading photos the last few days, I have been busy doing nothing. But I went out and photographed some. I gave up on the red/green/blue assignment, it was simply too difficult to find anything interesting. Well there is still blue in one of the photos and green in the other, but it doesn’t really count.
The photo on the left is taken in a forest with these really big trees, so I played a bit around with how to capture the size, and ended up with this shot.
Yesterday I went outside to shoot the dog for a while. The weather was wonderful and I had plenty of opportunity to shoot both in sun light and shadow and a mixture of it, so I got to play around a lot with light. It was a good experience. I got several really good shots, but picked this one as I think he smiles and it shows his personality very well. I cropped it in a 4×5 instead of the usual 2×3, mainly because I could make it a tighter crop around Oskar and make the stick he is chewing on a diagonal line to give the image a bit of tension. It is shot with my 50mm lens which yesterday certainly didn’t let me down. It is stopped down a bit and gave me some really good details and sharp images. With a wonderful contrast.
Enjoy

Coloured boats
Apr 7
Finding something which is red, green and blue on one photo turns out to be a major challenge. But I guess that is good, at least I had a fun time trying yesterday. I found a greenish boat and a blue/red boat and thought that would be the answer to tuesday’s photo.
With a bit of post processing of the sky, I think the photo turned out really well.

Power plant once again
Apr 2
I went out to take some photos and fell back to photographing Skærbækværket for two reasons. First of all, it had an interesting sky, and I could get the company flag in the photo. Not that I want to toot the horn of DONG Energy, but the flag colour gave me some nice contrast in the photo.
Not one of the better photos I think, but something to start on and get back in the habit of taking photographs every day.

Spring Flowers
Apr 1
I know I have had a rather long absence from my blog and my photo project. I was finishing up my PhD thesis, and that took up all my energy, but now I am done with it, and I will try to get this project running again.
Spring has come to Skærbæk, and lots of flowers have started blooming in rather wonderful colours, and with the Easter comming up with the yellow colour I thought I would start out with that.
I have gone for a different crop than I would think I would normally do. I would normally let the flower fill out a lot more of the photo, but I think that only filling the lower part of the photo with them and let the rest be a dark contrasty colour works nicely. That way I have also inverted the light/dark part that you would normally see in a landscape photo, such that the dark part is in the top.
Hopefully I will be going again now with lots and lots of photos during the Easter and onwards.
