Winter scene and decay

Winter scene from Kolding Today’s post is a bit of a mix, I didn’t get around to uploading yesterday’s photo, so I will do that today. It is what you see on the left. yesterday all the trees were covered in a thin layer of snow which gave them this awesome look. So when I went shopping I stopped by Slotssøen in Kolding to make a few shots. It wasn’t what I had in my mind when I drove to Kolding, but the result is decent.

Decay Todays photo is something a bit different. I drove a bit around in the area today with Oskar, and found this run down farm.  I just had to stop and take a few photos of it. It looked as if they had a funeral there today, so I didn’t want to invade their privacy though. I tried tweaking the photo in post processing. First I thought I would give it an antique black and white look, almost sepia, but that was too easy. So instead I went with this slightly desaturated look with lots of contrast to pull out the deterioration of the door.

So a few completely different shots, with the same lens.

What? Again?

Wide angle boat You think you have seen this before? It is a photo I took today with my kit lens, since I wanted to recreate the wide angle look I have seen in some photos. I don’t get the fisheye look I had hoped for, but I learned a lot about wide angle and how it affects distances. If you compare it with the photo I took a while ago (right side) A boat in the winter . The boat in the foreground is almost the same size, I am somewhat closer to it on the left, but sort of same size. If you look at the boat out in the water though, there is a significant difference. The wider zoom makes it much smaller.

I think I like the wide angle shot (left) better of the two. The boat is sharper in it as well, but I think that has to do with my focus point, since I do believe that my prime lens in general is much sharper and better image quality compared to the kit lens.

Great weather today

Logs in the snow We have had a wonderful weather today.  I went to explore an area around Taulov which I haven’t been in before armed with my camera and a happy dog.

It was a nice walk, and  the sun shine has really given be a boost of energy today which has been much needed. Back to the photo…

I found a few logs in the side of the road, which I figured could make a decent photo.  Not mind boggling or really telling a great story, but a decent and calm photo.

I also took a photo of some trees and their shadow, which was kind of okay. When a car entered the frame it really started having potential. It is only later I realised that my shutterspeed was too fast, so it stopped all motion making the car look like it is parked :/

So today reminded me that I need to practice taking photo with motion, and learn panning techinques.

Happy sunny Sunday

The same boat

A boat in another light I am posting the same boat again today, and why is that? Well yesterday it was grey and cloudy. Today I walked in the sunset, and with clouds scattered across the sky. That makes a significant different photo, or at least it can. I wanted to check out if I could get that to show in black and white as well. This is the result.

The angle is different. I like the angle yesterday better, due to the boat in the middle of the fjord adding a lot to the photo. But that would mean no clouds in today’s photo.  I wanted a bit of a dramatic sky, so I enhanced the contrast a lot, and I figured I still have a way to go before figuring out the B&W conversion.

Another note I took is that I tried shooting Oskar with my 50mm today which focuses faster than my zoom lens, and that means a lot to the focus when he is running around. So I will be doing that more from now on. Unfortunately I kind of missed the high dynamic range of the him in the snow, so he turned pitch black on most photos.

Anyway, I have learned some things today. Hope you enjoy the result :)

A boat at winter time

A boat in the winter Just a short update from me today. I am still playing around with black and white, and I absolutely love how I can change the constrasts in the image and seeing how much it means. Today I have tried to pull out the boat and make it appear as the subject by making it darker.

It’s a sign!

It's a sign I have decided to make this week all black and white, scratch that – we call it duo tone week.  I have wanted to play around with black and white images for a while, or duo tone if you like. So why not force my self to do that. All images this week will be in black and white,  so I might get the hang of it.

With black and white I believe I can work more with shapes, lines and textures, since one dimension has been removed, and therefore doesn’t distract. That makes some things easier, and some things harder. Here is my first attempt at a snow covered landscape with a sign.

Capturing motion

DSC03324 I got inspired by Simon showing me some photos of snowboarders and how he tried to capture motion.  So I wanted to see if I could capture motion as well. He got some great panning shots, but I can only get Oskar to run towards me, so that was not an option.

I tried different shutter speeds to see if I could get him to become blurry and freezing his motion.  Looking through them now the ones where I stop his motion are the better ones. His position along with the spray of snow shows the motion in the photo while still keeping him sharp. I like this photo most of them all since he looks a tad crazy.

Have a nice weekend

Where is my muse?

SwansI have been a day behind for the last couple of days, so I will take the chance to publish two images today, to catch up.  The swans to the right are taken yesterday.  So I have taken a photo per day, but the sofa caught me off guard last night and suddenly I was on the couch. I have had a streak of really good images if I have to say to my self, ranging from portraits to landscape photos. The last few days I haven’t been able to find some interesting scenes and the few I did find turn out dull when I captured them.

The swans were fun to watch and fun to shoot, but the photos turned out to be grey in grey, so I tried to convert it to a contrasty black and white. The image is not the best for it, but I got to play a lot with lightroom settings.

A boat Today I went for a few shots on the beach with Oskar running around, but I couldn’t hold my camera steady enough for the apparently low light so they all went blurry. I got a shot of a boat which is kind of okay, but boring.

I have posted photos for the days but nothing great. If you see my muse, please send her home. I miss her :)

Simon visiting

What are you looking at? I never managed to post anything yesterday, though I got some pretty decent shots. Simon came to stay for a day, since they warned about a big snow storm coming. We never really got that much snow, but it was fun to have him over.  We took Oskar for a walk to get the opportunity  to hone our photography skills. It ended up being pretty dark, but I managed to get this shot of Oskar watching Simon taking photos.

Brians homebrewed beerLater in the evening we went to another colleague’s house (Brian) to taste his home brew beer, so I wanted to post a photo of that, even though it is not my photo for the day. It was really good, and we had a great night trying to confuse Brian with camera stuff since he just bought a Canon D500. I played around with it a bit, and it is really a nice camera. From what I can see it performs really well.

How to play golf in snow?

Solitary tree Oskar and I went golfing today, but we couldn’t find the ball after the first shot. It is really hard to find in the snow. So I went to take some photos instead during the sunset.

Finally the sun is shining again, I think it is a week or so since I saw it last, and apparently I need sun to exist. At least I am pretty happy today with the nice weather. It is cold, but that can be dealt with by an extra layer of cloth.
