A dog’s view

A dog's view When I walked the dog I saw this scene which was such a nice play of shadows (not sure I quite captured it the way I saw it).  And I wanted to make it into a photo. I tried a few different things, but I didn’t quite get the foreground the way I wanted until I by accident included Oskar in the frame. If nothing else I like the concept of showing what the dog sees.

A pile of wood

A pile of wood The last few days have been pretty easy in terms of the what I wanted to take a picture of. Since I was within my normal environment. Today I am away from home, so I am out of my comfort zone. That coupled with the fact that it was almost dark when I was ready to go out and photograph meant I had about 10 minutes to find a suitable subject before it would be too dark outside for my gear.

Rushing like that has taught me a few things. I don’t find it easy to be forced into finding something to shoot, I prefer it to come naturally, which means that some times I come back with an empty camera. Today I shot a few different things I found mediocre, but coming back and looking at the pictures showed that at least a few of them did okay.

The other challenge this week, is the lack of post processing software. I have picassa, which means I can crop, rotate and a few more basic things, but nothing fancy like exposure compensation. I think this will be a good experience for me.

Back to the actual picure. I picked one which I actually liked somewhat. It depicts a pile of wood, and you see it from the end. I like the round shape which repeats throughout the image, and I like the  lines the wood forms. Especially the diagonal lines they form. I used flash to get anything in the picture, and since I only have the on camera flash, it shows really clearly on  the picture and flattens it somewhat. In this case I think it actually helps to bring out the round shape of the wood chuncks.
